For two seasons I photographed concerts for Sivak Concert Agency in Dnipro, Ukraine, until I moved to Belgium.
Every concert was a different stage. A jazz night and an orchestra playing the music of Queen on the rooftop of the Menorah Center, high above the city at sunset. A Christmas concert of Sinatra songs at the Dnipro Philharmonic. And an evening with Ukrainian singer Oksana Mukha, with a full light show, haze and moving lights.
Stage photography is about timing and respect for the performance. I work quietly from the side and the aisles, without flash, following the music to catch the moment a singer closes their eyes or a solo reaches its peak. At the open-air concerts I also flew the drone, to show the scale of the event: the stage, the full audience and the city around it. For the agency, I delivered a first selection on the night of the concert, ready for social media and press, followed by the full edited gallery. Today I’m based in Ghent and photograph concerts, theatre and events across Belgium.
